UNO frees a family from ostracism in Gurudaspur

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Gurudaspur of Natore intervened and finally freed a helpless family from ostracism. 

UNO Tamal Hossain released the victim's family from ostracism on Monday afternoon. The incident took place at Debottar Gorilla village in Nazirpur union of Gurudaspur.

The UNO said that after the incident was confirmed, Lutfar Nahar Lata of ‘My House, My Farm’ project and BRDB officer Noor Alam were sent to the spot. There they talked to people.

They informed the villagers that no one can be kept in isolation against the prevailing law. At that time, the elders of the area promised not to do such harassment in the future.

He added that no one can be blocked by issuing a fatwa outside the existing law. Concerned UP chairman and members have been directed to monitor the matter. From now on, the family will be able to move around normally.

On Saturday, June 13, Maulana Nuruzzaman, the Imam of the nearby Raninagar Mollapara Mosque, issued a fatwa to keep the family isolated, on allegation of immoral relations with daughter and son-in-law.
