‘Universal pension scheme to ensure financial security to people’

Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said that the universal pension scheme like developed countries to give self-reliance and financial security to the people of the country.

‘The Prime Minister has taken various initiatives to transform Bangladesh into a self-respecting country. As a part of this initiative, Universal Pension Scheme was launched to ensure social and financial security in old age’ the DC said this at an awareness and spot registration programme held at Bangabandhu Conference Hall at World Trade Center in the port city on Monday morning.  

CCCI President Omar Hazzaz presided over the programme. 

He said that initially there was little interest in the scheme due to negative publicity, but now the participation rate in the scheme has increased significantly. Especially since the people of Chattogram region are mostly expatriate, their participation rate in expatriate scheme is very high.  ‘I think it is much safer and more profitable to invest in expatriate schemes than keeping your hard earned expatriate money with relatives and family members’ he added.

He said that the money of this scheme will be invested in big mega projects of the government and the money earned from that investment will be paid as profit to the pensioners. This pension scheme will provide more self-reliance and financial security to the people of the country on the model of the developed countries of the world.  He called upon all, including businessmen, to highlight the positive aspects of these schemes to all.

Among others, Chamber Director Md Ahid Siraj Chowdhury (Swapan), Anjan Shekhar Das, Mahfuzul Haque Shah, Akhtar Uddin Mahmud, Lub-rref (Bangladesh) Limited Managing Director Mr. Mohammed Yousuf, GPH Ispat Representative Osman Gani Chowdhury, Junior Chamber International Former President Md. Tipu Sultan Shikder, Sarwar Amin Babu, Director of Freedom Women Shakti Monika Bhattacharya, BSRM representative and Chamber Secretary in-charge Engineer Mohammad Faruq, business leaders of various sectors among others, also spoke, on the occasion.

Directors of Chamber AKM Akhtar Hossain, Md Rakibur Rahman (Tutul), Alamgir Parvez, Mahbubul Haque Miah, Moham­mad Adnanul Islam, Mohammad Monir Uddin, Omar Muktadir were present.

Chamber President Omar Hazzaz said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Universal Pension Scheme in 2023 to fulfill the dream of Father of the Nation Banga­bandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in building a non-discriminatory social system and welfare state and to ensure social and financial security by 2041.  At the beginning, the people were encouraged through three schemes, but the Pragati scheme was launched under the direction of the Prime Minister, thinking about the future financial security of the private employees of the country and the officers and employees working in various business and industrial establishments.  Through this, private employees like government employees and common people will also get financial security in old age.
