Since September 28 the BNP-Jamaat clique and some political parties continued their political programmes like hartals and blockades casting a shadow over academic activities in the capital city and parts of the country.

Many educational institutions like schools, colleges, and universities in the capital are running their academic activities amid blockades. However, students’ attendance has dropped remarkably, according to media reports.

Fearing violence, most parents and guardians are not sending their children and wards to educational institutions, especially those who live far from schools and colleges students. Besides, authorities of many schools and colleges and universities have postponed scheduled examinations, compounding the stress and uncertainty over students’ studies.

We are also concerned about the safety of the students during their commuting to and from school in these challenging times. The impacts of this political unrest are most profound in the capital, divisional cities and district headquarters.

The government had planned to complete the primary and high schools’ final examinations by the current month. But if the blockade continues it will not be possible for the authorities to complete the final examinations as per the government plan.

This ongoing situation has left students and parents in a state of panic, with fears of a more challenging political situation throughout November and December. Uncertainty is also looming over holding public examinations, including the Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate examinations.

None should be

allowed to play game

with our students

The impact of these disruptions extends beyond the capital, with divisional and district towns also experiencing low student turnout. This comes after almost two years of academic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the damages from which are yet to be fully recovered by the educational institutions.

Session jam in different departments of public and private universities have already taken a heavy toll on the academic activities of students, as they are still waiting to sit for their Honours 1st 2nd, 3rd and 4th-year final examinations while Master’s final examinees are also facing the same problems.  Now the students are in a quandary about whether they would be able to participate in the examinations.

Keeping this volatile situation in mind, the university authorities will have to take time befitting steps to continue the academic activities through virtual classes. Earlier the Covid-19 pandemic affected the academic activities of all educational institutions badly. So our university’s academic activities have also been affected.

BNP-Jamaat is involved in brutal terrorist activities to obstruct the country’s all sectors and democratic process as well. The fear that was in public mind in the name of their so-called rally has been proven true today in their terrorist activities.

If the BNP wants to protect our students, there is no alternative to join the next general elections, shunning the path of violence. None should be allowed to play game with our students’ fate and foil the upcoming elections by resorting to violence and anarchy. BNP should join the next general elections, shunning the path of violence in the greater interests of the country. As the country is engulfed with acts of criminalism all in the name of political programmes like hartal and blockade, we must raise our voices for immediate withdrawal of hartal and blockade.

We people do not want repetition of such violent and subversive acts in the name of hartal and blockade. We want to see the end of such political programmes immediately.
