After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, at least 600 students of Dhaka University, involved in Chhatra League politics, are passing days amid uncertainty as they cannot take part in their classes and sit for their exams.

Even BCL leaders are now scared of physical assaults on the campus.

Of the total BCL men, at least 165 are residents of Bijoy Ekattor Hall, 59 of Surja Sen Hall, 58 of Zahurul Huq Hall, 51 of Ziaur Rahman Hall, 39 of Hazi Muhammad Mohsin Hall, 35 each of Sir AF Rahman Hall and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, 25 each of Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall and Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall and 20 of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall.

At least 40 students involved in BCL politics and attached to five female halls have also been declared unwanted in their respective dormitories.

Besides, at least 20 activists of Jagannath Hall have been boycotted by students.

However, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League told Bangladesh Post, “I was involved in Chhatra League politics but I need to stay at Hall. That is why I did it. But it has become a curse for me. I can't take part in my classes and sit for exams.”

Another Chhatra League leader named Raiful Islam told this correspondent, “If we commit crime, we definitely have to face the music. But without carrying out any kind of criminal activities, I have been facing mental torture and uncertainty as I was involved in student politics.”

Even though a committee has been formed in this regard to crosscheck facts, it is not working. This correspondent observed that they have yet to take any visible steps to allay fear among students.

DU Proctor Safiuddin Ahmed said, “We are also concerned over the issue. We have formed a committee. They have been working in this regard. Besides, we are aware that we will not take any action against those who are not involved in criminal activities, including attack on students on July 15.”
