Under the slogan “No Place for Discrimination in the Land of the July Revolution”, a human chain was held in Ulipur, Kurigram, protesting the exclusion of kindergarten and private school students from the Primary Scholarship Examination for Class Five.
The protest took place on Thursday in front of the Upazila Parishad premises, organised by the Bangladesh Kindergarten Society, Ulipur branch. More than 300 teachers from 21 kindergartens and private schools participated in the demonstration.
Saidul Islam, Director of High Ambition Kindergarten and President of the local Kindergarten Society, moderated the event.
Among the speakers were Monakkhar Hossain Monnaf, General Secretary, Ganesh Saha, Assistant Head Teacher of N.S. Amin Kindergarten, Rezaul Islam, Director of Swat Kindergarten, Shasthi Kumar Saha, Director of Shishu Kanan School, and Ansar Ali, Assistant Teacher.
Speakers highlighted that education is the cornerstone of a just and modern society and should be equally accessible to all. They strongly opposed the exclusion of private school students from scholarship opportunities, labelling it as discriminatory.
Following the event, a memorandum was submitted to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, with a copy provided to the Upazila Primary Education Officer.
