British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on Thursday greeted Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus on his assumption of office of the Chief Adviser to the interim government and expressed his desire to work with him and the government for peaceful transition to an inclusive and democratic future.
In a congratulatory message sent to Prof Yunus on August 14 (UK time), he said, "I warmly welcome your appointment as Chief Adviser to the Interim Government in Bangladesh."
He continued: "We look forward to working with you and the Interim Government as it creates a peaceful transition to an inclusive, democratic future."
At such a pivotal moment in Bangladesh's history, your leadership will be crucial in navigating the multiple challenges faced by the nation, he said.
"The United Kingdom values its strong and enduring relationship with Bangladesh, cemented by our deep people-to-people ties and shared Commonwealth values," he said.
The British premier said, "As a friend, we have been deeply saddened by the violence and loss of life in recent weeks."
"We recognise the bravery of the students and many others who through peaceful protest called for a different future for Bangladesh," he said.
The British Prime Minister said that the British Government wants to support you as you work to restore peace, law and order, and prosperity to Bangladesh.
Singapore’s PM writes to Prof Yunus
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has congratulated interim government chief adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and said he is confident that under Prof Yunus’ leadership, Bangladesh will return to a path of peace and prosperity, where all communities co-exist harmoniously.
The Prime Minister said he looks forward to working with Prof Yunus to further strengthen the close ties between the two countries.

“I would like to congratulate you and extend my best wishes on your appointment as the Chief Adviser of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” the letter reads.
In this period of transition, he said Prof Yunus-led interim government has resolutely undertaken the crucial task of restoring stability. “I wish you and the government every success.”
The Prime Minister said Singapore and Bangladesh enjoy a warm and longstanding friendship. “Our multifaceted cooperation spans a wide range of sectors, including trade and investment, labour, renewable energy, infrastructure, and port management.”
S Lankan President makes congratulatory phone call to Yunus
Meanwhile, President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe made a phone call to Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus late Wednesday.
The Sri Lankan President greeted Dr Yunus on his assumption of the leadership of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, said the Chief Adviser's Press Wing on Thursday.
President Wickremesinghe congratulated Professor Yunus on assuming the role of Chief Adviser and he advised Sri Lankan investors who have been doing business in Bangladesh for decades to remain in the country, and play a constructive role in its growth and progress.
Professor Yunus invited the Sri Lankan President to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.
