‘UK govt to support dev efforts of Bangladesh’

The delegation of the British High Commission in Bangladesh commented that the British government will always stand by Bangladesh's development.

 Members of the delegation, British High Commission Dhaka Second Secretary (Political) Doyin Adele-Shiyanbola and Bryony Corr made the comments during a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam on Tuesday.

 The British delegation said that the British government granted recognition to Bangladesh immediately after independence, which helped Bangladesh to join the Commonwealth.  Apart from this, the British government has been taking the lead in helping to deal with any natural disaster in addition to developing the infrastructure and human resources of the newly independent country.  The British government will remain a friend for the development of Bangladesh in the future.

 CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned home via Britain's Heathrow airport when he was released from Pakistan's prison.  Along with the recognition of Bangladesh as the first western country, Bangabandhu received continued support from the British government in rebuilding the war-torn country.

 Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) under the leadership of the present mayor Rezaul Karim is fighting to change the fate of Chattogram residents.  The benefits of the extensive activities CCC is currently undertaking in education, health and infrastructural development will be long-term and sustainable.”

 Secretary Khaled Mahmud, Private Secretary to Mayor Muhammad Abul Hashem, Public Relations and Protocol Officer Aziz Ahmed were present in the meeting.
