UGC urges students not to get admitted to 8 private varsities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a warning regarding university admissions for students who have passed the HSC and equivalent exams.

In a notice released on Thursday, the UGC urged students not to seek admission in eight private universities in the country. The commission stated that some of these universities are operating illegally, while others have suspended their admission processes due to irregularities. The UGC clarified that if students are deceived by enrolling in these universities and face legal issues later, the UGC will not be held responsible.

The notice, signed by the Director of the UGC's Private University Division, mentioned that under the Private University Act, 2010, a total of 115 private universities are currently approved, with educational activities taking place in 106 of them. The commission also published a list of universities that are facing legal issues and other complications. Updated information on private universities is regularly uploaded on the UGC's official website.

Universities under UGC's warning: 1. IBAIS University; 2. America Bangladesh University; 3. The University of Comilla; 4. Victoria University of Bangladesh; 5. Central University of Science and Technology (Dhaka); 6. Southern University Bangladesh; 7. Darul Ihsan University; and 8. Queens University.
