Two youths drown in Chakaria

Two youths were killed as they drowned when they went for fishing at Matamuhuri River in Bhewla area at Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday. 

The deceased were identified as Monsur, 21, son of Idris Mia and Md Mubin, 18, son of Abdus Salam, residents of Sikder Para village under Bhewla union of Chakaria Upazila in Cox’s Bazar.

Locals said the youths were drowned when they went for a fishing in Matamuhuri River at around 10:00am. On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the duo at 4:00pm. 

East Boro Bhewla UP Chairman Farhana Afreen Munna confirmed the matter to the media.

The UP chairman said that the locals tried to search them as they were drowned in the river when they were fishing there. Later, locals started searching them but could not trace them. At one stage, the members of fire service came and rescued their bodies.

Bappi Barua, a fire fighter of Pekua Fire Service, said that we searched and later divers from Chattogram came and we along with them recovered the bodies of the youths.
