Large quantities of government rice and wheat stored in privately owned godowns have been seized in Lakshmipur on Friday evening.
At the same time, local administration has sealed two godowns for illegally stockpiling rice and wheat. At that time 95 tons of rice and 20 tons of wheat were seized.
Two godowns of Sheikh Farid, a businessman from Hazirhat area of Kamalnagar, were raided and were sealed after the government rice and wheat were found there.
Local officials of the National Security Intelligence Agency (NSI) received information that Sheikh Farid, a local trader, had illegally stockpiled various government-allotted rice.
Later, Lakshmipur Director of the agency Manik Chandra Dey and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mubarak Hossain went to the spot along with law enforcers.
At that time, he found 20 tons of government wheat in a truck in front of Farid's godown and 95 tons of government rice inside the godown and sealed his two godowns.
According to eyewitnesses, each bag contained the seal of the Food Department. A case has been filed with Kamalnagar police station in this regard. A man named Mizanur Rahman has been arrested, said Kamalnagar Police
Station OC.
On the other hand, Kamalnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mubarak Hossain said, "We have sealed two godowns after finding government rice and wheat. The administration will soon form an investigation team to look into the matter”.
