A freight train collided head-on with a railway trolley at Milpara area near Kushtia station on Friday noon. Kushtia-Rajbari railway line was damaged due to the accident. No one was injured but five compartments of the freight train have derailed and damaged the track.

The freight train had 22 compartments, which were full of wheat. The train was going from Rahanpur of Chapainawabganj to Faridpur. The driver of the train, Mostafizur Rahman, said that after getting clearance from Kushtia station, he was taking the train to Kumarkhali. After crossing 200 yards of track, he saw a railway trolley standing on the track in front of Milpara Secondary Girls School. He applied the brakes after seeing the trolley but could not stop the train in time, as it was only 50 yards away at the time.

Ariful Islam, a resident of Milpara, said, 'I was standing next to the railway line. After the collision, that trolley went up to five compartments through the bottom of the train. Five rear compartments got derailed after the collision.

Stationmaster of Kushtia Railway Station MA Zaman informed Bangladesh Post that a relief train has been called from Ishwardi. However, it will not be possible to repair the track and re-establish rail communication before 24 hours.
