Two students drowned in flood waters in Dewanganj of Jamalpur. The incident took place at noon on Thursday (June 18) in Dakatia Para area of Naya village in Chikajani union. Dewanganj Police Station OC Mohammad Mohabbat Kabir said Mithila, 12, daughter of Mozaffar Hossain, a resident of Balu village of the upazila, and Asmani, 12, daughter of Ashar Uddin of Char Dakatia Nayapara village, were swimming in the canal to collect jute leaves for goats. Two children drowned in the middle of a flood-filled canal. Later, the locals found many of their belongings and finally recovered the bodies. The two slain children were studying in the fourth grade of Dewanganj Takimari Government Primary School. The death of two students has cast a shadow of mourning over the area.
