Rangpur Metropolitan Police has revealed the mystery of sensational murder of two sisters in Rangpur.
As a sequel of discontent over the issue of love affairs, boy friend Mahfuzar Rahman Rifat killed his girl friend Sumaiya Akhter Meem after raping her and to hush up the incident Rifat also strangled Jannatul Maoya, younger sister and cousin of Meem and then tried to convince others the incident as an act of suicide, informed Abu Maruf Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) of RPMP at a press conference held at the conference room of RPMP on Sunday night.
In the press conference DC Abu Maruf Hossain claimed, Meem and Maoya did not commit suicide but they were murdered in a planned way.
He informed, as per plan, in absence of the uncle and aunt of Meem, Mahfuzar Rahman, boy friend of Meem entered into their house where Meem and her younger cousin Maoya were staying. At a stage, by managing Maoya, he raped Meem afterwards they locked into an altercation over their personal affairs when Mahfuz killed her by strangulation and to diver the incident of murder other way, he wrapped the throat of victim Meem with a scarf and bent two wings of the ceiling fan downward.
After killing Meem, Mahfuz tried to escape outside through the room of Maoya but she resisted his escape when Mahfuz also starngled Maoya and killing her. He left the dead body of Maoya on the floor of the room and injured her throat with the glass of a mirror.
Later' police held Meem's boy friend Mahfuzar Rahman Rifat on suspicion and during interrogation Mahfuz informed police about his involvement with the murders.
The press conference was attended, among others, by RPMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Crime) of Police Shahidullah Kaosar, Additional Deputy Commissioner(DB & media) Uttam Prasad Pathok, Officer in charge of Kotowali thana Abdur Rashid and Investigation Officer of the case Mojnu.
It is learnt, police recovered dead bodies of two sisters from a house of Madhya Goneshpur area of Rangpur city on Friday noon. After the incident, based on the clue of the mobile phone of Meem, police arrested Mahfuz.
