For participating in Jamalpur’s Dewanganj municipality election as rebel candidates, former mayor of local Awami League Md. Shah Mohammad Shahenshah and former joint convener of Upazila Chhatra League Sheikh Mohammad Nurnabi were expelled from the party on Sunday night.
They were expelled for allegedly violating party discipline. This information was given in a press release signed by district Awami League President Muhammad Baki Billah and General Secretary Farooq Ahmed Chowdhury.
It has been said that in the Dewanganj municipal election to be held on February 28, Md. Shah Nawaz Shahenshah competed with the coconut tree symbol and Sheikh Mohammad Nurnabi with the jug symbol.
Article 48 (1) of the party constitution exempted the two from all responsibilities related to Bangladesh Awami League.
