The Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) authorities have suspended two students on allegation of hurting religious sentiment by criticising Islam through social media post on Facebook.

The two students who face suspension are Pratik Majumder of Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM) and Dipta Paul of Department of Pharmacy.

Both students, who are of the 2017-18 session, also have their dormitory allocation revoked over the allegation.

A notice was issued by the NSTU Registrar Professor Abul Hossain on Wednesday on the matter.

It said the university administration have decided to suspend students facing allegation and also cancelled their seats from the dormitory for hurting religious feelings and commit punishable offenses under the existing law by criticizing Islam and insulting Prophet Muhammad through Facebook post.

The students have been asked to explain to the registrar by November 2 why they should not be suspended permanently and prosecuted under the Digital ICT Act, the notice added.
