The police have arrested 2 people in the stabbing death of labour Sardar Masud in Khatunganj of Chattogram. The accused were arrested on Friday.
The arrested are: Md. Sohag (22) son of Md Jasim. Another accused Md Saidul Hossain (22) son of Md. Ali Hossain.
According to the police of Kotwali police station, according to the information given by Md Saidul, the mastermind of the incident, the knife used in the murder was recovered from an empty place next to Hifs Agro Food Industries on Haji Aminur Rahman road under Bakalia police station at around 5 am on Friday. Another involved accused Russel Miah (22) is absconding.
The arrested Sohag Amin is a resident of Haji Road Mojah Colony. Saidul is a resident of Taktarpul Bismillah Colony.
According to the police, on October 17 around 7 pm, the accused Russel Mia, Saddam, Sohag and some unknown workers beat up Sardar Md. Masud (40) and stabbed him in the chest and stomach in front of Samir Trading. Earlier at 10 o'clock in the morning, Md Masud had an argument with the fugitive Russell Mia about keeping the pickup on the road. Md Masud died in the early hours of October 19 while undergoing treatment at CMC Hospital.
In this incident, his son Md. Babul filed a case at Kotwali police station as plaintiff. After that, the operation to identify and arrest the accused began with the help of information technology and the collection of CCTV footage around the scene.
Jahedul Kabir, OC of Kotwali police station, said that in front of Samir Trading, the accused had beaten the laborer Sardar Masud in Jap and at one stage, Saidul Hossain stabbed him. The accused then fled to different places. The operation to arrest other absconding accused is continuing
It is to be noted that a group of 12 people led by driver Md. Russel dragged Md. Masud, a worker of M/s Samir Trading, out of the shop and publicly stabbed him. This incident a case was filed that night with the driver Russell as the number one accused. In protest of this incident, the workers observed a continuous strike from Monday night to Wednesday evening. This created a deadlock in Khatunganj, the country's biggest wholesale market. Later, the workers held a series of meetings with the businessmen and temporarily called off the strike.
