Two people were killed in a collision between a pickup van and a truck on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway in Analiabari area under Kalihati Upazila of Tangail on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Shipon, 40, son of Mansour Sheikh, resident of Moshaura village under Daulatpur Upazila in Kushtia and assistant of the pickup van Sheikh Muhammad Aslam, 55, son of late Sheikh Alimuddin, resident of Kandapara village under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila.
Police and the local sources said a goods-laden truck was going to Dhaka when another Dhaka bound pickup van lost its control and hit the back side of the truck. As a result, the driver and the assistant of the pickup van were killed on the spot. Later, on information, police personnel rescued their bodies.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Mohammad Alamgir Ashraf confirmed the matter.
OC Mohammad Alamgir Ashraf said police personnel went to the spot after hearing the matter and rescued their bodies. They were sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy. Their bodies will be handed over to their relatives after completing legal procedures.
