Two people were killed and 8 others were injured in a head-on collision between a private car and a Mahindra on Tangail-Mymensingh regional highway at Malaubari area under Madhupur municipality in Madhupur Upazila of Tangail on Friday.
One of the deceased was identified as Kamrul Islam, resident of Jaina Bazar area under Sreepur Thana of Gazipur. The identity of the other one could not be known immediately.
Among the two deceased, Kamrul Hassan died on the spot. The locals rescued 9 injured people. One of the injured died on the way to Upazila Health Complex. The on-duty doctor of the health complex referred the injured to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Milon Hossain, a resident of the area, said that he along with others went to the spot after hearing a loud sound. Later, they rescued the injured and sent them to Upazila Health Complex. Meanwhile, the private car driver fled the scene. However, a passenger trapped inside the private car was rescued by breaking the glass of the vehicle.
Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur Police Station Molla Azizur Rahman said a private car and a passenger-carrying Mahindra had a head-on collision at Malaubari area in the morning. One passenger of the Mahindra died on the spot and 9 others were injured in the accident.
He also said one of the injured died while they were being taken to the Madhupur Hospital. Later, the injured were sent to Maymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment. The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their relatives after completing the legal procedures.
Sazzad Hossain, on-duty doctor of the emergency department of Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, said one of the injured died before reaching to the hospital. However, other injured were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as their conditions were critical.
