Two persons were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Sonasur area under Sadar upazila of the district in the early hours of Thursday.
One of the deceased was identified as Mizan, 25, son of Alimuddin of Rupsa upazila in Khulna district while the other was an unidentified woman, 35.
The accident occurred when a Satkhira-bound passenger bus of 'Tungipara Express' from Dhaka collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in the area at around 2am. The bus fell into a ditch on the side of the highway, leaving two passengers of the bus dead on the spot and 10 others injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhatiapara Highway Police Abul Hasem Majumder said.
On information, three units of the fire service rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and sent the injured to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital, he said. The bodies were kept at Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital morgue for post-mortem, the OC added.
