Fishermen are catching sea fish species, Bhetki, from the Jamuna and the Hurasagar rivers in Pabna.
Fish traders were seen selling Bhetki fish in the markets in the district’s Bera upazila but people were reluctant to buy since the fish species unfamiliar to the people of Pabna.
However, many were seen showing curiosity on the new fish.
On Saturday, fisherman Jahid Hasan caught a Betkti fish weighing two kilogrammes in Hurasagar river.
He took the fish to the wholesale fish market at C&B Bera Bazaar and sold the fish at Tk 500.
Fisherman Jahid Hasan said he has no idea about the fish but such fish are often trapped in the nets of the fishermen in Jamuna and Hurasagar rivers.
Bera Upazila Fisheries Officer Abdul Matin said this fish is also known as Coral fish in some places.
It is even pricier than Hilsha fish, he added.
