Police personnel in Jhenaidah arrested two men for their alleged involvement in killing a housewife and stabbing her daughter-in-law at Khalkula village in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Fatema Khatun, 40, wife of Obed Ali, resident of Khalkula village of the Upazila.
The detainees are Sagar Hossain and Sushanta Sarker.
Police and locals said two young men Sagar Hossain and Sushanta Sarker had broken the wall of the house of Obed Ali on Thursday night and entered into the house of the victim.
They slaughtered Fatema and stabbed her daughter-in-law Bithi Khatun and looted valuables from the house. Fatema Khatun died on the spot. Bithi Khatun with her wounds arrived at a nearby house.
Locals rescued her and sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital in a critical condition. Later, she was referred to Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.
Locals said both Obed and his son Mehedi are expatriates.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Uddin said the body was sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The details about the killing and looting will be disclosed after an interrogation of the detainees, the OC said.
