Two get life for gold smuggling

Two persons were awarded life term imprisonment and fined Tk 50,000 each in gold smuggling case eight month ago.  District and sessions Judge of Jashore Md. Ekhtiarul Islam Mollick delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon.  The convicts are-Anisur Rahman Kazi son of Sarwar Kazi resident of Takerhat area in Rajoir upazila in Madaripur district and Tanvir Zaman son of Moniruzzaman Manju resident of Baropalla village under Bhanga upazila in Faridpur district.  

District Judge's Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate M Idris Ali said,on  secret information BGB members were searching the vehicles at the Amrakhali check post in Benapole on the morning of June 16,2019.Passengers Anisur Rahman and Tanvir Zaman were arrested after searching a bus Deah travel to Benapole from Dhaka. The bodies were then searched and the 26 gold bars were recovered from them. 

Its weight is 3 kgs 32 grams. They were carrying gold bars for smuggling to India. BGB Naeb Subedar Abdul Malek filed a case with Benapole Port thana in this connection. Investigation Officer charge sheet in the case was submitted in the court accusing Anisur Rahman and Tanvir Zaman.  After examining the record and witnesses, district and sessions judge handed down the verdict in a crowded court yard.  PP said,we are happy as the smugglers have been awarded life term imprisonment.
