Two people including a house owner died recentlyafter inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank while cleaning the septic tank at a house in West Rakhalia village of Sonapur union under Raipur upazila of the district.
One of the deceased was identified as owner of the house Riyad Hossain, son of Noor Nabi Leda and a sweeper, whose name could not be known immediately, residents of the area said.
"The sweeper first entered the septic tank to clean the tank of the house and got trapped inside the tank.
Later, the owner of the house Riyad Hossain went down to rescue him. None of them returned anymore, both died around 8pm on Monday night, officer-in-charge (OC) of Raipur Police Station, Yasin Farooq Majumdar said.
On information, police and fire service men rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies after breaking the septic tank, he said.
The bodies were kept at the Raipur Upazila Health Complex.
Necessary action will be taken after investigation, the OC added.
