A mobile court in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga has fined two individuals Tk 50,000 for illegally extracting sand, on Saturday.
The convicted are Hasanuzzaman (21) and Habibur Rahman (50).
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Syedzadi Mahbuba Manzur Mowna led an operation in the Raypur Bazar area, where the duo was found extracting sand using a dredging machine without proper lease approval.
According to court sources, a group had been extracting sand illegally from the Raypur area for an extended period.
During the raid, Hasanuzzaman, son of Masum Billah of Krishnapur village, and Habibur Rahman, son of Moslem Ali, were caught red-handed.
The magistrate stated the fine was imposed under Section 7 of the Balumahal and Soil Management Act, 2023, and such drives will continue in public interest.
