Two fertilizer factories shut in Chattogram

Two fertilizer factories of CUFL and Kafco, have stopped production for maintenance work in Chattogram.

1 thousand 700 metric tons of fertilizer is produced daily.  Annual production capacity is 5 lakh 61 thousand metric tons of urea and 3 lakh 10 thousand metric tons of ammonia.

Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company has stopped gas supply to two factories for the time being.

Besides, Kafco is a project jointly owned by Bangladesh government and Japan, Netherlands, Denmark which started production of urea fertilizer since 1993.  Kafco produces about 1500 MT of ammonia and 1750 MT of urea per day.

About 6 lakh metric tonnes of urea fertilizer is supplied across the country from Kafco annually.

It mentioned that on October 29, 1987, the government established the CUFL Fertilizer Factory at Rangadia of Anwara Upazila on the south bank of the Karnaphuli River with the technical assistance of Japan.  These two factories have a daily demand of 80 million cubic feet.
