Two drug dealers arrested with 700 Yaba tablets in Thakurgaon

Two alleged drug dealers, Rafiqul Islam (32) and Hasibul Islam (35), were arrested by police in Thakurgaon while attempting to enter the town on a motorcycle carrying 700 Yaba tablets. They were apprehended following a dramatic police operation based on intelligence reports.

The arrest took place on Sunday near the ‘Aparajeyo ’71’ monument and the District Council Park area in Thakurgaon town.

According to the Detective Branch (DB), they received a tip-off that Rafiqul Islam, a known drug dealer, was heading towards Thakurgaon from Baliadangi with a consignment of Yaba tablets. Using digital surveillance, DB officers tracked his movements and took positions at various locations.

To avoid detection, Rafiqul tried to bypass the main road and enter the town via College Road. However, DB officers pursued and intercepted the suspects near the ‘Aparajeyo ’71’ monument. During the confrontation, both the suspects and police officers fell off their vehicles, but police managed to detain the suspects.

A search of their bag revealed 700 Yaba tablets.

Initial reports confirm Rafiqul Islam is from Hajipara in Thakurgaon town, son of Lutfor Rahman, and Hasibul Islam is from Jiabari village in Baliadangi, son of the late Abdul Jalil.

DB Sub-Inspector Shahriar Sarkar stated that checkpoints had been set up in anticipation and praised the successful operation.
