Two die of Covid in 24 hours

Bangladesh reported two deaths across the country including the capital from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8 am Monday.

The deceased were men and were being treated at government hospitals. 

With the latest additions, the death toll reached 27,980 and the case tally increased to 15,76,011 in the country, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement.

The DGHS said among the total 27,980 fatalities, 12,213 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,681 in Chattogram, 2,050 in Rajshahi, 3,609 in Khulna, 946 in Barishal, 1,270 in Sylhet, 1,367 in Rangpur and 844 in Mymensingh divisions.

On Monday, 227 more people tested positive for the virus. 

The current positivity rate was reported at 1.34 percent after 16,891 samples were tested across the country during the same period, the DGHS statistics showed. 

The country registered three deaths and 205 cases on Sunday.

Also, 280 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with a 97.75 percent recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 17,905 of the total deceased across the country were men and 10,075 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
