Two businesses fined Tk 50,000 in Jibannagar Consumer Rights raid

The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a drive in the Andulbaria Bazar area of Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga, and fined two businesses a total of Tk 50,000 for violating consumer protection laws.

The operation was led by Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, Assistant Director of the DNCRP, Chuadanga district office. The raid took place on Sunday afternoon, focusing on essential goods, medicines, and bakery items.

Mamunul Hasan confirmed the fines to the media at around 4:45 PM on Sunday. He stated that Messrs. S.A. Food Products was fined Tk 35,000 for failing to label bakery products with proper manufacturing and expiry dates, in violation of Section 37 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.

Additionally, Messrs. Nur Nahar Bakery was fined Tk 15,000 for similar labelling violations and for not renewing their business licence.

Both businesses were instructed to update their documentation and ensure compliance going forward.

The raid was carried out with support from the Department of Environment’s Assistant Director Naresh Chandra Biswas and a team from the district police. Officials stated that such drives will continue in the public interest to ensure consumer safety and fair practices.
