Two boats detained for killing Jatka, fined

Two boats have been seized for killing jatka in illegal nets by conducting raids in Karnaphuli river and Bay of Bengal.  Jatka are also confiscated and fined.

Akmal Ali Ghat, South Kattoli Ghat and Gahira area of Bay of Bengal from Friday morning under the leadership of District Administration Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commi­ssioner (Land) Kattoli Circle Umar Faruq by Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Coast Guard, District Fisheries Department in Akmal Ali Ghat, South Kattoli Ghat and Gahira area of Bay of Bengal from Friday morning.  Mobile courts are operated.

During the operation of the mobile court, two boats were seized and 40 kg of jatka was seized from one boat.  4 people including the owner of the boat were fined 5 thousand rupees total 20 thousand rupees and one boat was seized.  A total of 20 bihindi nets and 3 tong nets were seized from the boat.

The nets were later burnt and destroyed in the presence of Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Coast Guard, Executive Magistrate.

Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources Dr. Jobaidul Kabir, District Fisheries Survey Officer Mahbubur Rahman, representatives of Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Coast Guard were present in the expedition.

 Umar Faruq, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kattoli Circle, said that boats and nets were seized in the Bay of Bengal.  The seized nets were burnt and destroyed.  Our campaign will continue.
