Two beaten to death on suspicion of cattle theft

Two persons were alleged beaten to death on suspicion of cow theft in Birgram village of Narail Sadar Upazila on Monday early in the morning. On information Police recovered the bodies at around 9:00 am from the grain field on the north side of the rural electricity station and a garden on the south side of the electricity station on Narail-Gobra road. Later, the dead bodies were sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station Md. Mahmudur Rahman confirmed the matter.

The identity of one of the deceased has been found. He is Asadul Sheikh (36), son of Gafur Sheikh of Dariya Baridanga village of Fakirhat Upazila of Bagerhat district. The identity of the another deceased could not found immediately.

Police and Locals sources said, thieves stole one cow from Sushen Biswas of Birgram and five cows from Ram Biswas of Ujirpur village around last one month. Since that incident, the people of the two villages kept regular vigil to catch cow thieves. On Monday morning at around 3:30 am, when 5-6 thieves tried to steal the cow from Rebo Biswas house of Birgram village, the owner of the house shouted and the people around gathered and chased the thieves. After being chased by the villagers, 3-4 members of the thieves were escaped. At this time, people caught Asadul Sheikh and an unknown person on the suspicion of cow theft.Angry villagers beaten them seriously and they were dead  on the spot. 

Kalora UP chairman Ashish Kumar Biswas and several people said that the alleged thieves used to sell blankets, plates and other goods as vendors during the day and engage in theft at night after searching in the surrounding villages including Birgram and Ujirpur. 

OC Md. Mahmudur Rahman also said that a case has been filed at Sadar police station in this connection.
