Two accused in a gang-rape case arrested

DB police have arrested two accused named Swapan Ali and Shahadat Hossain in a gang-rape case in Baraigram of Natore. They were arrested on Monday after conducting raids in different places of Baraigram upazila.

The press briefing was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Tariq Zubair, Mir Asaduzzaman, DB Police Officer-in-Charge Anarul Islam and other officials of the police administration.

At the press briefing, the Superin­tendent of Police said that a 13-year-old girl left her house at around 7.30 pm on July 18 to visit her grandfather's house in Manikpur village of the same upazila. Later, when a van arrived at the Rayna filling station of the upazila around 9:30 pm, the accused, including the driver of the van, forcibly grabbed her, took her to a banana orchard, gang-raped the girl and fled.

Later, the girl herself returned home and informed the family members about the incident. The girl's mother then filed a case with the Baraigram police station accusing three unidentified persons. After filing the case, the police along with the DB police team arrested the rapists Swapan Ali and Shahadat Hossain at different places. When the arrested persons were later produced before the court, they gave a confessional statement under section 164. Attempts are being made to arrest the other accused.
