In the early hours of Wednesday night, locals in Thakurgaon intercepted a truck allegedly transporting government-subsidised chemical fertiliser illegally under the cover of
darkness.
The incident occurred around 1:30 AM in the Dehon Moydan Bazar area of Raipur Union, Sadar Upazila. According to local residents and police, the truck had been loaded in Velajan Bazar and was heading out when suspicious locals stopped it and demanded to see official documentation. Upon discovering the fertiliser, the driver and his assistant fled the scene.
Police and agricultural officials were called in, and the truck—loaded with approximately 300 sacks of fertiliser—was seized and taken to the local police station.
Md. Nasirul Alam, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer, confirmed the seizure and stated that the fertiliser would be sold at government rates, with proceeds deposited into the public treasury.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md. Saroware Alam Khan, confirmed legal action would be taken against the unknown suspects.
This incident follows previous seizures, including over 800 sacks from illegal stockpiles in Baliadangi and more from dealers in Sadar. Locals are urging stricter enforcement, warning that failure to dismantle smuggling networks may lead to recurring violations.
