Eyewitnesses and on-duty police reported that a microbus from Biman Bangladesh Airlines was crossing Russell Square junction from Panthpath when it was struck from behind by a truck heading towards Sciencelab from the Shyamoli-Asadgate direction. The collision caused the truck, laden with sacks of paddy, to overturn onto the microbus.

The spilled paddy sacks scattered across the road, further impeding traffic flow.
