Planning Minister MA Mannan has said that the trial of series bomb attacks, which took place in 2005, must be held. Trial of all other incidents will be held in the country. He also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government are working against militancy, terrorism and other evil works.

He said these while speaking at a discussion on ‘Women’s Development in Education: Perspective, Sunamganj Govt Women College’ in Sunamganj on Saturday as the chief guest. He also handed over prizes among the winners of Education and Cultural Week-2019 at the programme.

Principal of Sunamganj Govt Women College Prof Porag Kanti Dey presided over the programme, while it was addressed, among others, by MP from Sunamganj-4 constituency Advocate Peer Fazlur Rahman Misbah, wife the planning minister Julekha Mannan, president of Sunamganj district Udichi Shila Roy, principal of Sunamganj Govt College Nilima Chanda, civil surgeon Dr Ashutosh Gosh and former principal of Moulvibazar Govt College Syed Muhibul Islam.

MA Mannan said that many militants convicted in the August 17 series bomb blast cases walked out of prison after serving their jail term and it remains a big challenge for law enforcers to keep them under surveillance.

The present government is working to ensure trial of the incident.

He also said that the process of bringing all militant suspects under monitoring had begun across the country. They will be tried.

On August 17 in 2005, the members of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) carried out a series of attacks in around 500 places of 63 districts out of 64. Munshiganj was the only district that was spared. In that time, the BNP-Jamaat-led four-party alliance government was in power.

In the bomb attacks, a total of 159 cases were filed across the country, 18 in Dhaka alone. Police named 1,072 people in 142 charge sheets. 133 of them are on bail. Final report of 17 cases has been submitted.
