Trend of giving bank loans to single client increases: BIBM

The trend of allocating loans by different banks to a single customer increased by about 4 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year (2017), according to a research of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM). The research report was presented on Tuesday at a workshop titled ‘Credit Operation of Banks’ at BIBM auditorium in the city, said a press release, reports BSS. Bangladesh Bank (BB) Executive Director and BIBM Director General M Abdur Rahim inaugurated the workshop while BIBM Chair Professor and former Professor of Dhaka University Economics Department Dr Barkat-e-Khuda presided over the workshop.

BIBM Professor and Director (Administration and Accounts and Research, Development and Suggestion) Dr Prasanta Kumar Banerjee presented the research report. Through the video conference, officials of the BB Chattogram office also took part in the workshop. Abdur Rahim suggested the Banks to be cautious while giving loans to the customers. 

Barkat-e-Khuda said the people of the village are getting low amount of debt. So, the policymakers have to think about the issue and find out a way to bring everyone under the banking services, he added. Taking part in the discussion, Managing Director of Sonali bank Limited SA Chowdhury emphasised on providing more training to the bankers so that they can maintain the highest caution in giving loans.
