Travelling to Bandarban postponed for indefinite time

Bandarban District’s Ruma, Rowangchari and Thanchi Upazilas have banned tourist travel from October 18 for an indefinite period. This news was confirmed by Ruma Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mamun Shibli.

Rowangchhari Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Khorshed Alam Chowdhury also said that in Rowangchhari Upazila, tourists are being discouraged from traveling to tourist centers under Rowangchhari Upazila from October 18.

Thousands of tourists visit the natural beauty of Bandarban every day. In Ruma Upazila, the favorite tourist spot is the mysterious Baga lake, the second highest mountain, Keokradong Hill, where hundreds of tourists travel every day. In addition, popular tourist places in Rowangchhari upazila are Devtakhum, Tamatungi and Nafakhum in Thanchi upazila, Bara Pathar, Remakri falls are favorite places of tourists.

Ruma Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mamun Shibli said that due to the recent increase in the traffic of various terrorist organizations in Ruma area, tourists are being discouraged from traveling to Ruma Upazila for an indefinite period from Tuesday for the sake of the overall safety of tourists.

Nashirul Alam, President of Bandarban Jeep-Microbus Owners Association, said that the administration had discouraged tourists from traveling to Ruma-Rowangchari upazila on Monday. 

However, since Tuesday morning, the administration is sending back all the vehicles carrying tourists from Milanchari area of Ruma and Thanchi road in Bandarban Sadar area.

When asked about this, Bandarban Tourist Police Additional Superintendent of Police Md Naqibul Islam confirmed the truth and said that he had heard about the matter. He has not received the official letter yet. Details about the search news will be given later, he added.
