A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Member of Parliament Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, his wife Chhammi Akhter, DESCO engineer Jagadish Chandra Mondal, and his wife Sabita Mondal, in connection with ongoing corruption investigations.
On Monday, the order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib following two separate petitions submitted by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Directors A.K.M. Mahbubur Rahman and Md Al-Amin.
According to the ACC’s petition, Suman is under investigation for allegedly acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income. Intelligence reports suggest that he is attempting to flee the country and transfer both movable and immovable assets abroad, which could hinder the investigation.
In a separate petition, the ACC stated that DESCO engineer Jagadish Chandra Mondal is being investigated for alleged bribery, illegal acquisition of assets worth hundreds of crores, money laundering, and various irregularities. There are credible reports that he and his wife are planning to flee the country, prompting the court to restrict their travel to ensure a fair investigation.
