A Dhaka court on Tuesday issued a travel ban and ordered the blocking of national ID cards for former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Md. Shamsul Haque Tuku and his sons, SM Asif Shams and SM Nafiz Shams, due to an ongoing Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation into allegations of illegal wealth accumulation.

Judge Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order based on a petition filed by ACC Deputy Director Md. Al Amin. The court directive was confirmed by ACC’s public relations officer Akhtarul Islam.

According to the petition, Tuku allegedly used his political influence to amass substantial movable and immovable assets illegally. Although currently incarcerated in another case, authorities expressed concern that he might flee the country upon release on bail. The ACC also reported that Tuku and his family are allegedly attempting to transfer ownership of their properties, which could hamper

future legal proceedings, including asset seizure.

The central role of the National ID (NID) in property transfers, tax filings, passport services, and banking transactions, the court deemed it necessary to block their NIDs to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
