Hundreds of transport workers blocked the highways at Jhenaidah district town on Thursday noon when police arrested two of their leaders following a quarrel between the three-wheeler easy-bike drivers and transport workers.

The blockade had thrown the passengers moving to and from Magura, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Rajshahi and some other districts into distress, when the deadlock continued for about two hours. Later the matter was solved through a discussion at about 2 pm.

Jhenaidah bus, minibus, microbus transport workers union president Waliur Rahman said the police had arrested two of their leaders including bus owners association leader Shanti Das and union leader Imran Hossain following a quarrel between the three-wheeler easy-bike drivers and transport workers.

As the news of arrest was spread faster, hundreds of workers form surrounding places rushed the spot and blocked the highways that continued for two hours. Later they had withdrawn the barricade when police had released them after a discussion.

Jhenaidah police station officer in charge Sheikh Sohel Rana when contacted said it was simply misunderstanding between the transport union leaders and the law enforcers which were solved immediately.
