Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Traffic-South Division Deputy Police Commissioner NM Naseeruddin said that accidents are constantly happening on the roads due to unfit vehicles, competitive spirit, over taking, over load, over speed and driving by unskilled drivers.  Keeping in mind the life safety of passengers, drivers and pedestrians, the driver's license and necessary documents must be carried while driving.  By obeying traffic signs and laws, road accidents will be reduced to a great extent.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the training workshop for various transport drivers on road safety and road order organized by Traffic-South Division at Rajbari Community Center near Karnaphuli New Bridge in Baklia on Saturday morning.

He said that the vehicle should be driven in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act, traffic signs and traffic police instructions.  Do not drive while drunk or drowsy.  Stopping the car everywhere and picking up passengers, occupying the road and parking the car, blowing the horn unnecessarily, driving for more than six hours continuously, using mobile phones and headphones while driving should be avoided.  Drive carefully around schools-colleges, hospitals, religious institutions and accident-prone areas.  Hydraulic horns are completely prohibited in urban areas.  Passengers, pedestrians, road mismanagement, inexperience and awareness of traffic rules and other factors are responsible for accidents.  Although it is not possible to reduce accidents to zero, it can be reduced through awareness.

He said that we never want anyone to die or get crippled in a road accident.  It is the responsibility of all of us to give the gift of safe roads.  Although the number of accidents in the city is much less than that of the highway, it is not possible for the police alone to resolve traffic jams, prevent road accidents and restore order.  Again, only the vehicle driver-helpers should not be held responsible for the accident.  The vehicle owner and pedestrians should be aware of this.  Before taking the car on the road, it must be ensured that the engine, engine well, brakes, wheels and other parts are in good condition.  Accidents cannot be avoided if one is not aware.

In the workshop, more than two hundred drivers of various transports including bus, truck, tempo, CNG autorickshaw participated in the training workshop.

The event was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of CMP Traffic-South Division, Md Raish Uddin and TI (Administration) Anil Bikash Chakma moderated.  TI (Baklia) Md. Abdul Mukit delivered the welcome speech at the training workshop for transport drivers.  President of Road Transport Workers Federation Chattogram Mohammad Mucha, President of Chattogram Auto Tempo Owners Association Md Mohiuddin, General Secretary of Kotwali-Baklia Truck Owners Group Md Nazrul Islam Dulal, General Secretary of Chandgaon-Bahaddar Hat Auto Tempo Sramik Union Ahmed Hossain, President of the labor union Chattogram Auto Tempo Md.
