Dream of the country's people is going to be true with the inauguration of Padma Bridge next month. With this the authorities concerned are hopeful that they would be able to operate trains on the bridge within next March or June.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan has said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Padma Bridge next month. Besides, the train will run on the bridge in March or June next year.

This information was disclosed to the journalists by the Railways Minister while inspecting the Padma Bridge Rail Link project under construction on Sunday.

Nurul Islam Sujan said, “The train will not run on the day of inauguration as railway track could not be installed on the bridge.”

He said, “For now, the aim is to run train from Dhaka to the Bhanga junction of Faridpur via Mawa Padma Bridge on March 26 next year. If that is not possible, the train will run from Dhaka to Padma Bridge in June next year.”

The Railways Minister said, “Work on the Padma Bridge railway project from Dhaka to Jessore is underway. However, due to various reasons including the pandemic, we are not able to launch everything right now. However, after completing the road work on the Padma Bridge on priority basis, the bridge authorities will allow us to start railway work on the bridge in July. After that we will start installing the railway line/track on the bridge. It will take six months.”

The train will be operated from Dhaka to Jessore in June, 2024, he added.

Only 2.6 km of the 7.15 km rail link bridge remains incomplete. Officials said the rest of the stoneless railway line would be completed soon as the viaduct was completed.
