Tragedy Day observed in Netrakona

The "Tragedy day" of massacre by suicide bombers at Netrakona Udichi Office premises was observed here  on Friday  with paying glowing tributes to the memories of the suicide bomb victims.

On the day of December 8, 2005, a suicide bomber of the banned militant organisation JMB carried out the suicide bomb attack at the Netrakona Udichi office killing eight persons including, two front ranking Udichi leaders, and injuring 50 people.

To mark the day, Netrakona Tragedy Day observation committee took an elaborate program. State Minister for Social Welfare and valiant freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, MP, formally inaugurated the day's program by placing a floral wreath at the bomb blast victims memorial monument at the Udichi office premises here.

At that time, Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali, MP and mayor of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan placed floral wreaths at the monument. Then, people of all walks of life, including public representatives, political leaders, freedom fighters and cultural activists placed floral wreaths at the monument. As part of the program, a protest-rally against fundamentalism and militancy was brought out in the district town from Netrakona central Shaheed Minar premises.

A large number of local people, including students and cultural activists, wearing black badges joined the rally.

Local elite, freedom fighters, political leaders and public representatives led the rally that ended at the same place after parading main roads of the town.

A three-minute silence was observed in the district town from 10:40am to 10:43am today showing respect to the memories of the victims.
