A traditional SM Sultan boat race was held on Chitra River in Narail on Saturday noon at 3:00 pm in rememberence of 98th birth anniversary of world renowned artist SM Sultan.SM Sultan foundation and district administration jointly organized the boat race.
A total of 18 boats including 15 men and 3 women were participated by about 1000 men and women Mallah from different places of Khulna,Gopalganj,Magura,Rajbari and Narail districts.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Zillur Rahman Chowdhory was present the boat race session as chief guest while Deputy commissioner of Narail Muhammad Habibur Rahman, Police Super Most. Sadira Khatun, Additional deputy commissioner (general) Md.Fakrul Hasan, Narail sadar UNO Sadia Islam,SM Sultan Foundation secretary Ashikur Rahman Miku, heroic freedom fighter Saifur Rahman Hilu, Advocate Nazrul Islam, Chamber of Commerce president Md. Hasanuzzaman among others were present.
Later, the chief guest and other guests distributed prizes among the winners of the boat race. Thousands of people including men, women and children of the area and adjacent areas-Jashore, Khulna, Magura,Gopalganj districts enjoyed the boat race.
Huge viewers were gathered at river sides and roof of the river side building to see the boat race.
It is to be mentioned that this traditional race is a major event for people in Narail, which is organised at every year.
This event has gained a significant fan following and people from different districts come to see this race.
