Trader hacked to death in Narsingdi

A 65-year-old trader n was hacked to death by unidentified assailants while returning home from his shop in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.

The incident occurred around 1:30 AM on Monday in Jangi Shibpur area of Raipura.

The dead Manik Miah was a resident of Jangi Shibpur village under Uttar Bakhar Nagar union. He ran a grocery and general goods business in the local market.

On Monday morning, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sujan Chandra Sarkar, Raipura Circle ASP Bayezid Bin Monsur, and other police officials visited the victim’s home and the crime scene.

According to family members and locals, Manik Miah was returning home after closing his shop. At that time, he was attacked near the bank of the Arial Khan River. The assailants hacked him to death and fled, leaving the body at the scene. On information, Raipura police visited the spot and sent the body to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The motive for the killing remains unknown.

His brother, Arif Miah, said, “Manik Miah usually returned home by 9 PM every day. When he didn’t come back even after 10 PM, we tried calling his phone several times, but there was no response. Around 1:30 AM, I went out and found him lying on the road with his throat slit and covered in blood.”

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sujan Chandra Sarkar said, “The body has been recovered. He was attacked from behind with a sharp weapon. We found a mobile phone, a torchlight, and some cash at the scene, but the murder weapon was not recovered. The motive behind the killing is still unclear.”
