A businessman was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at night at Nandipara village under Kalikaccha union under the upazila.
The dead Mostafa Kamal was a resident that village.
According to police and family sources, Kamal was returning home after closing his shop. At that time, he was attacked by miscreants near his residence.
The miscreants struck him on the head and neck with sharp weapons and left him critically injured by the roadside.
A passerby saw him lying in a pool of blood and informed his family. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Upon receiving the news, Officer-in-Charge of Sarail Police Station Morshedul Alam Chowdhury visited the scene. “Preliminary evidence suggests a targeted attack. We are investigating the matter,” the OC said.
The body has been sent to Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue. Legal proceedings are underway.
