Trader dies of hydrophobia in Patuakhali

A businessman died of hydrophobia in Patuakhali's Baufal upazila on Wednesday.

The deceaed Jalal Sikder, 50, was a resident of Sherebangla road in Baufal town.

He died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

It was known that Jalal Sikder has a grocery shop in front of his residence. Before this Ramadan, he was bitten by a dog in front of his shop. After going to the emergency department at Baufal Health Complex, the on-duty doctor advised him to take rabies vaccine. He later purchased and took the full dose of the vaccine from an outside pharmacy. But even after applying the vaccine, Jalal Sikder's condition deteriorated and he was sent to Dhaka for better treatment.

Later, He died on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Regarding the death of Jalal Sikder due to hydrophobia despite treatment, Baufal Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Prashant Kumar Saha said that the proper code is not followed in the storage of medicines in outside pharmacies. 

He believes that Jalal Sikder may have died as the vaccine was not effective.
