A photographer named Md. Yunus was arrested by tourist police on charges of harassing a tourist couple at Cox's Bazar beach.
He was arrested from Sugandha Point on the beach on Sunday morning. Yunus's photograph is dress number 592.
The victim tourist Sifat Mahmud said, “I went to Sugandha Beach with my wife. There was a cameraman who requested a lot to take pictures. Then we took some pictures. It was said that we will take 30/40 pictures together.”
But he took 250 pictures and billed 800 taka. When I refused to take additional pictures, the photographer started threatening me.
Then I was forced to leave with the money.
Later I drew the attention of the authorities in this matter.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Cox's Bazar Tourist Zone Rezaul Karim confirmed this.
He said, on Saturday, a victim sent a complaint of harassment by the photographer on WhatsApp to our official number. Immediately sent a team of tourist police to trace the accused photographer by jersey number.
He was not found throughout the day but was arrested on Sunday morning. We have spoken to the complainant.
We will send the accused photographer to court for trial.
He also said that the license of the photographers is given mainly by the district administration. We do not have any database due to which action cannot be taken against them at the earliest. We have taken initiative to make database.
Database will be completed soon. We provide training for photographers. Hopefully there will be no such complaints then.
We have help desks at every point of the beach.
Tourists visiting Cox's Bazar are requested to take the help of the Tourist Police in case of any harassment or untoward incident.
