‘Tourist attractions must follow hygiene rules’

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohammad Mahbub Ali MP said that every tourist center, hotel-motel and resort should abide by the rules laid down in the government notification to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. Everyone in the tourist centres must follow the hygiene rules, no deviations will be tolerated.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a virtual exchange meeting organized by the Bangladesh Tourism Board on Tuesday to determine the steps to be taken to manage the sub-sectors related to the tourism industry following the standard operating procedure and hygiene rules.

He further said that public awareness should be created in the tourist destinations of the country through a massive campaign to motivate the tourists to abide by the hygiene norms. Authorities should make sure that everyone uses a mask. To make the tourists aware, the local administration will conduct activities by involving public representatives, volunteers, scouts and other stakeholders. Hotels, motels and resorts need to be properly cleaned regularly and kept sterile.

The state minister said tourist destinations have been opened with a view to livelihood and economy. This has given an opportunity to the tourism industry, which was damaged due to Covid-19, to turn around. No action can be taken to shut down the sector again due to increased infection. The local administration will strictly monitor whether the hotels, motels and resorts are following the instructions of the government properly.

At the end of the discussion, decision to conduct constant mobile court drives to ensure hygiene, regular monitoring of whether hotels, motels and resorts are providing more than 50 per cent accommodation was discussed and encouraged. 

Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mokammel Hossain addressed the meeting as a special guest under the chairmanship of Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Jabed Ahmed. Besides, Chairman of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Md Hannan Mia, Director General of Archeology Department Ataur Rahman, President of TOAB, DIG of Tourist Police, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, Moulvibazar, Chittagong, Khulna, Bagerhat, Kishoreganj, Sylhet and Patuakhalidistrict administrations. The meeting was attended by responsible persons of various organizations of tourism related stakeholders.
