Bandarban tourism centres resume operation today

All tourism centres including the hotels, motels and resorts of Bandarban are going to reopen from today (Friday) under certain terms and conditions after five months of closure, informed Shamim Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban on Thursday.

It is learnt, due to Coronavirus infection, a ban was imposed on visiting of tourists and all tourists centres, residential hotels, motels and rest houses of Bandarban were closed due to Corona pandemic from March 18.  

However, traders involved in tourism of the district are happy for reopening the tourism centres and the hotels. Earlier, a decision was taken to reopen the tourism industries of the district from August-17 but the date was deferred due to Corona infection. 

The decision of reopening of all tourist centres and related industries from August-21 was taken at a meeting held at the office of Deputy Commissioner on Thursday. Tourists will not able to visit the tourist centres by following the health rules and maintaining certain terms and conditions. 

According to sources, due to Coronavirus pandemic, all hotels, motels, rest houses and other tourism industries of the district were declared closed from March rendering several thousand people involved with the industry unemployed and incurring nearly Taka 100 crore loss. 

Kamal Uddin, transport labourers' leader Kamal Uddin informed, due to lock down caused by Coronavirus, tourism industries in Bandarban collapsed rendering thousands of labourers jobless. Now, they were happy at the reopening of the industry. 

Imran Uddin, Director of Fanush Resort and Manik Chowdhury, Director of Swornoshila informed, due to closure of the hotels for a long time, they have sacked most of their employees. As a result, many furniture of their hotels have been damaged. Now, they were purchasing those furniture again. They said, like other hotel, motel owners they incurred a huge loss due to lock down. 

Shamim Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Banderban informed, all hotles, motels and rest houses of the district are being reopened for the tourists under certain terms and conditions. The tourists would be able to visit the tourist centres of the district by following health rules.
