Tk 30,000 fined for selling adulterated turmeric powder

A mobile court on Sunday raided a business at Kazirhat Bazar in Shariatpur’s Jajira Upazila for selling adulterated turmeric and chilli powder. 

A fine of Tk 30,000 was also collected from the business at the time.

The trader od Messrs Nurul Haque Oil Mill was marketing low quality turmeric and chilli powder mixing harmful colours with them. This illegal trade was going on for a long time. 

Finally, the mobile court stopped the illegal business during the campaign of Shariatpur National Consumer Protection Department. 

Sujan Kazi, Assistant Director of National Consumer Rights Protection Department in Shariatpur lead the raid at the time. 

According to mobile court sources, the raid was carried out out at Kazir Hat Bazar in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur as part of regular monitoring to control food prices and prevent adulteration in food on the occasion of the upcoming Ramadan. 

During the raid the processing mills of different spices (turmeric, chilli etc.) were inspected. At that time Messrs. Nurul Haque Oil Mill of Kazirhat Bazar was fined Tk 30 thousand. Traders were instructed to refrain from mixing adulterated and harmful ingredients in food items including spices then.
